Keep your investment looking great!

So you just got back from an epic day on the water and everyone was in love with your new SeaDek, but now it’s time to clean up!  All the fun has left a serious mess on your deck.  Now you wonder: What is the best way to clean my new SeaDek?

Because of its closed-cell composition, SeaDek is non-absorbent and naturally stain-resistant, so dirt and grime stay on the surface, making cleanup much easier than other flooring materials like carpet.

In this article, we will go through the best tips and steps to properly clean SeaDek!

Dek Magic

For easy removal of most common stains and spills, as well as general cleaning, reach for Dek Magic, a cleaner specifically formulated for cleaning PE/EVA foam decking on your boat. Just apply Dek Magic to the areas to be cleaned, work it in with a medium bristled boat brush, let it sit for 3-5 minutes, and rinse! Dek Magic is great for removing really tough stains from things like oil, blood, and wine, and is also safe for most other boat surfaces, including vinyl and PVC.

Latitude 18 Yachts keeps Dek Magic in stock and ready for our customers!

Other cleaning options...

If Dek Magic isn’t available, SeaDek can also be cleaned with a variety of marine and household cleaners.

To clean dirt, footprints, etc. from your SeaDek, use an all-purpose cleaner, degreaser, or dish soap along with warm water and a medium bristled brush. Thoroughly work the soapy mixture into the SeaDek until dirt, etc. comes up. Rinse with clean water and repeat if necessary.

For stubborn stains that persist, mix a bleach solution with one cup of bleach per gallon of water. Using a soft-bristled brush, scrub in a circular motion until the stain comes out. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and repeat if necessary.

Sometimes anchor rode or non-stainless hardware can leave unsightly rust stains. For this, we recommend a cap full of vinegar or oxalic acid. Apply to the rust stain and allow to soak for 3-5 minutes. If necessary, use latex/nitrile gloves to massage the cleaner into the texture of the SeaDek pad. Rinse with water and repeat if necessary. When applying oxalic acid, use care to avoid getting acid on the edges of the pad, as it could damage the lamination or PSA.

Finally, one of the easiest ways to clean SeaDek after a day on the water is with the help of a light-duty, low PSI pressure washer (similar to the type used in a car wash). Using a wide-angle tip and care to keep a suitable distance from the material to avoid damage, watch the evidence of a fishing trip quickly disappear. Please note that while pressure washing is a great way to keep your SeaDek looking new, caution must be used to avoid any damage.

While SeaDek is easy to clean, make the job even easier by tending to any stains, spills, or leaks as soon as possible!
